“How do I get more Likes on my Facebook page?” is the #1 question I get asked in my business.
In today’s information age, customers are looking online before they commit to buying anything – they check out all the reviews (and complaints) about the business, they check out their social profiles and they basically hang out, lurking in the shadows, before you convince them you are trustworthy.
While buying fans may seem like a quick and easy solution – don’t do this! You will hurt your page, in the long run. You will never get any engagement and you will never develop a bustling community.
So, how can you get exposure for your page if you are just starting out?
The first thing is to TELL EVERYONE you know that you have a Facebook page.
If you have a brick and mortar shop, tell your customers to like you on Facebook – make it easy for them, give them the link and tell them why they should like it (special offers that you only promote on Facebook is pretty convincing!)
Add it to your email signature – how many emails do you send every day? You never really know if people are forwarding them to other people, so always include the link to your Facebook page, just in case someone wants to check it out.
Add a ‘Like’ box to your website – in the sidebar so it shows up on every page so no matter which page they land on, they can like your Facebook page. You can also add the ‘Like’ box to your Thank you page so every time someone signs up for your email list, they have the option to also like your Facebook page.
Get exposure by commenting on other pages as your page. You can like pages as your page which adds them to your Page’s own news feed. Then you can scroll through and comment on some of the posts, which will help to get your business name out there.
Promote, promote, promote your content. When you post your latest blog post on your business page, you can then share it on your personal profile. You never know who your friends know, someone may be looking for the exact thing you offer!
Whenever you like someone’s page you get a pop up with some suggested pages – if you like this page, you may also like these pages. If you want your page to show up here, you can turn it on in the settings.
Another idea I have talked about before is to link your profile to your page. I explain how to do that here. This is especially useful if you are active in Facebook groups. You have to join groups as your personal profile but often I want to check someone’s business page out but I can’t find it anywhere on their personal profile. That is a wasted opportunity.
Participating in Friday Fanpage parties is another great way to find fans. Search #FanpageFriday on Friday and scroll through all the parties being hosted all over the world. Be careful with this one – only connect with those who are in your target audience. It can be time-consuming reading through all the comments and connecting with people who interest you – see Kim Garst has over 500 comments! – but it can be worth it if you find a whole bunch of prospective customers all hanging out in one place. I love spending time on Saturday morning (I’m a day ahead here in New Zealand) going through them all and learning about all the amazing businesses people have – it is very inspiring!
